This tour will take you to the temple town of Pushkar, an ancient Hindu pilgrimage city and one of the famous tourist places in Rajasthan, located just 10 kilometers away from the city of Ajmer in Rajasthan. The holy town of Pushkar is famous for its lakes, temples, Ghats and the Pushkar Fair held in October to November for a period of seven days attracting tourists from all over the world. Enroute Pushkar, visit the famous dargah (shrine) of the Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer who founded the Chishtiya order, the prime Sufi order in India. Apart from one of India’s most important Muslim pilgrimage centres Ajmer has some superb examples of early Muslim architecture and is also a significant centre for the Jain religion, possessing an amazing golden Jain temple.

AJMER

Located at a distance of 135 km from the capital city of Jaipur, Ajmer is Rajasthan’s most significant site with respect to Islamic history and heritage. Ajmer has one of India’s most important Muslim pilgrimage centres, the shrine of Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chishti, who founded the Chishtiya order, the prime Sufi order in India. For long Ajmer has been a compulsory stop for travellers yearning for solace in its many wonderful sites of worship. This beautiful city has some magnificent examples of early Muslim architecture. Also a remarkable centre for the Jain religion, Ajmer possesses an amazing golden Jain temple. Ajmer also remains the ideal gateway to the holy town of Pushkar.

PUSHKAR

Pushkar which means born from a flower, is one of the oldest cities in India with its history dating back to the legends associated with Lord Brahma. Situated 11 km North West of Ajmer, it is one of the five sacred dhams and is often called “Tirth Raj” – the king of pilgrimage sites.The place has its own charm and known worldwide for its numerous temples and Cattle fair that take place every year. One of the world’s largest camel fairs, The Pushkar Fair (Pushkar Camel Fair) or locally called Pushkar ka Mela is an annual five-day camel and livestock fair held from the Kartik ekadashi to Kartik Poornima, (October–November) in Hindu calendar. Lying on the shores of Pushkar Lake, it has five principal temples, many smaller ones, and 52 Ghats where pilgrims come to bathe in its sacred waters from across the subcontinent.
