DELHI – KHAJURAHO – ORCHHA – DATIA – GWALIOR – AGRA – FATEHPUR SIKRI – JAIPUR – AMBER FORT – CHANDIGARH – DELHI
India has been a land of architectural marvels. The architecture of India is rooted in its history, culture and religion. Numerous invasions since early ages, has witnessed some of the most brilliant and sprawling empires in the history of the world and made India a home to some of the most beautiful and classic architectural monuments of the world. These architectural marvels are unique in terms of their structure, design and time of construction. The architectural wonders of India include temples, mosques, monolith statues, forts, palaces, universities, and tombs.
DAY 01: ARRIVAL IN DELHI
Namaste and Welcome to India! You will be welcomed by our representatives on arrival at the airport and transferred to your hotel.Rest of the day is at leisure to let you overcome jet lag. If you wish you can go for some shopping If there is time in the evening. Return to the hotel for a pleasant overnight stay.
DAY 02: FLY TO KHAJURAHO & KHAJURAHO SIGHTSEEING TOUR
Today board a flight to Khajuraho, famous for its Kamasutra temples.
The main attraction of Khajuraho is the Khajuraho Group of Temples. These temples are known for their Nagara architectural style and are listed as UNSESCO World Heritage Sites. Dating back to 950 AD, the temples are inscribed with ornamental carvings, mostly erotic. By the end of 12th century there were 85 temples as a whole, but today only 22 are left; Kandariya Mahadev Temple being the best of them all. The temples promoted integrity and acceptance between the Jains and Hindus. Overnight stay at Khajuraho.
DAY 03: KHAJURAHO TO ORCHHA (180 KMS)
Early morning drive towards Orchha, a silent village, which means “Hidden Place” located around 180 Kms from Khajuraho. Situated on the banks of River Betwa, Orchha is famous for its scenic beauty. The place is home of Bundela style of structural design and no doubt its historical structures are an eyewitness to its magnificent past and retains its medieval attraction. Enjoy sightseeing tour visit Jahangir Palace – A palace crowned with graceful domed pavilions & made for the one night stay of Jahangir during his trip to India, Raj Mahal another Palace famous for its eye-catching architectural beauty, The Senatops of Royal Family, Raja Ram Temples, and Laxminarayan Temple. Overnight stay at Orchha.
DAY 04: ORCHHA TO GWALIOR VIA DATIA FORT (110 KMS)
Early morning after breakfast leave for Gwalior. On the way to Gwalior visit seven-storied famous Datia Palace built in 1674 AD. The Palace is made of brick and stone and is one of the finest examples of Bundela architecture. Upon arrival enjoy sightseeing of Gwalior city visiting Gwalior Fort one of the most invincible forts in India. It was pleased by the Mughal Emperor Babur as “the pearl in the necklace of India. Visit double – storied Man Mandir Palace famous for stone carving and latticework, Teli ka Mandir – a 9th Century structure towering 100 feet high is an amazing blend of Muslim and Hindu architecture. Sas -Bahu Ka Mandir is another architectural gem at Gwalior Fort. Jai Vilas Palace & Museum, still residence of the Royal family. The Palace has collection of Belgian cut Glass furniture, stuffed Tigers, a Rolls Royce on rails, German bubble car etc. Overnight stay at Gwalior.
DAY 05: GWALIOR TO AGRA AND VISIT TO TAJ MAHAL (120 KMS)
Post breakfast start your journey towards Agra, The capital of Mughal Empire. Upon arrival at Agra and visit the beautiful Taj Mahal – One of the seven wonder of the world is the most charming and gorgeous work of art built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a remembrance to his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died during child birth. It is made up of white marble and took over two decades to complete. Evenig is free at your leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.
DAY 06: AGRA SIGHTSEEING
Start the day with a visit to the massive Agra fort – buildup of red stone was built by Emperor Akbar in 1565 AD. Within the fort are a number of beautiful buildings, including the Moti Masjid, Diwane-i-Am, Diwane-i-Khas, Itmad-ud-Daulah Tomb known as Jewel Box or Baby Taj – The tomb of Mirza Giyas Beg was constructed in 16 century by his daughter Nurjahan, the wife of the Mughal emperor Jehangir. In the eveening you may explore the colorful markets of Agra. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 07: DRIVE TO JAIPUR VIA FATEHPUR SIKRI
Today after breakfast drive towards Pink city of India, Jaipur. The city is remarked for its fabulous architecture, culture, Cuisine and lively spirit of the people. Jaipur is 235 Kms from Agra. Enroute to Jaipur visit Fatehpur Sikri – it was the capital of India between 1571-81 AD as a mark of respect to the famous Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chisti, who had forecast the birth of his son. But very early Mughal Emperor Akbar shifted his capital to Agra because of scarcity of water at Fatehpur Sikri. Evening you can visit Choki Dhani and enjoy mouth-watering delicious Rajasthani cuisine with live folk dance program. Overnight stay at Jaipur.
DAY 08: JAIPUR SIGHTSEEING TOUR
Today morning after breakfast explore the Pink City with an excursion to splendid Amber Fort, situated just outside the city, built in the 15th Century by Rajput King Man Singh. Visit Jal Mahal or water palace that is situated in the midst of the beautiful Man Sagar Lake in Jaipur City. Continue your sightseeing by visiting the regal City Palace – present residence of the royal family of Jaipur, the palace is a miraculous portrayal of the real Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Then visit the incredible Jantar Mantar which was innovated and constructed by Jaipur King Swai Jai Singh. Amongst the 5 observatories built by him, Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is one of them. Later visit the splendid Hawa Mahal, also known ‘Palace of Winds’ was built with a concept for the woman of royal families to speculate the royal ceremonies and festivals being hidden from the public eyes. After sightseeing have a pleasant night stay at your Hotel.
DAY 09: JAIPUR TO DELHI (250 KMS) AND DELHI SIGHTSEEING
Early morning after breakfast leave towards Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi visit Qutub Minaret- built in 1193 AD is the highest stone tower in India. Later visit to Old Delhi – enjoy drive pass through the superb Red Fort build by The Great Mughal emperor Shahjahan in1638-48 AD, Jama Masjid Mosque, the biggest mosque in India, build by Emperor Shah Jahan between 1644- 56 AD. Overnight stay at Delhi.
DAY 10: DELHI SIGHTSEEING & DRIVE TOWARDS CHANDIGARH (248 KMS)
Early morning continue your sightseeing tour with a visit to India Gate – The war monument built to remember the Indian and British soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan wars. The names of sufferer for a cause are inscribed on the walls of the memorial, Rastrapati Bhawan – the official house of President of India with 340 rooms it is the largest residence of any Head of the state of the world. Later in the day visit Rajghat- memory place of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian Ambassador for peace to the world and Lotus Temple – an architectural wonder of the Bahai faith. The lotus shaped Temple is set among pools and the Gardens, which gives a feeling of a floating half open lotus flower surrounded by its spread out leaves. Afternoon drive towards Chandigarh. Overnight stay at Chandigarh.
DAY 11: CHANDIGARH SIGHTSEEING
Enjoy sightseeing tour of Chandigarh – pleased as first considered city of India and is the face of modern. The city was planned by French Architect, Le Corbusier. Visit The Capitol Complex, seat of the Government of the states of Punjab and Haryana. It consists of three main edifices, namely the Secretariat, the Legislative Assembly and the High court. All three building stand tall, on behalf of the pillars of democracy of free India. Later enjoy visit to Rock Garden formed from industrial and urban wastes, with its fascinating statues, gardens and waterfalls Rock garden is a worth place to be visited. Last stop of the day is famous rose Garden of Chandigarh spread over 30 acres of land and show over 1600 different species of roses; this is the biggest rose garden in Asia. Overnight stay at Chandigarh.
DAY 12: DRIVE TO DELHI & DEPARTURE FROM DELHI
Early morning leave towards Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi visit the Grand Akshardham Temple complex, a great example of fusion of Ancient Temple architecture and modern Indian architecture. It took more than five years and work force of 11000 artisans to complete the wonderful modern day icon of Delhi. A minimum time of 4 hours is required to visit all place in Temple complex including the famous twelve minute boat ride, which takes you on tour of glorious 10000 years old Indian cultural heritage. In time transfer to Delhi Airport for your onward journey with some beautiful memories.
